ANC calculator online: absolute neutrophil count and neutropenia severity
Absolute neutrophil count from CBC: ANC = WBC × (% segmented + % bands)/100. Stratifies neutropenia severity and infection risk in patients on chemotherapy and with hematologic conditions.
About this calculator
Absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is a key parameter in oncology, hematology, and primary care for infection risk assessment in patients on cytotoxic chemotherapy, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis, HIV infection, and congenital neutropenias. Formula: ANC = WBC × (% segmented + % bands) / 100, result in ×10⁹/L. NCI CTCAE neutropenia grades: grade 1 – 1.5–1.9 × 10⁹/L, grade 2 – 1.0–1.4, grade 3 – 0.5–0.9, grade 4 – <0.5. ANC <1.0 increases bacterial infection risk; <0.5 (severe neutropenia) carries high sepsis risk and requires isolation, prophylaxis, and/or G-CSF. Febrile neutropenia – ANC <0.5 with single temperature ≥38.3°C or ≥38.0°C sustained for 1 hour – mandates empiric antibacterial therapy within 1 hour. The calculator helps with chemotherapy dose modification and cycle delay decisions.
