CHA₂DS₂-VASc calculator online: stroke risk in atrial fibrillation

CHA₂DS₂-VASc score for annual ischemic stroke and systemic embolism risk in non-valvular atrial fibrillation. Includes 7 components: heart failure, hypertension, age, diabetes, prior stroke/TIA, vascular disease, female sex. Guides oral anticoagulation decisions.

About this calculator

CHA₂DS₂-VASc is a clinical thromboembolic risk stratification tool in non-valvular atrial fibrillation, used in cardiology, neurology, and primary care. The score includes 7 components: chronic heart failure or LV dysfunction (1 point), hypertension (1), age ≥75 (2), diabetes (1), prior stroke or TIA (2), vascular disease – CAD, MI, peripheral atherosclerosis (1), age 65–74 (1), female sex (1). Maximum 9 points. ESC 2024 guidelines recommend oral anticoagulation at score ≥2 in men and ≥3 in women; at score 1 in men and 2 in women the decision is individualized using HAS-BLED for bleeding risk. The score is not validated in valvular AF, prosthetic valves, or mitral stenosis – anticoagulation is mandatory regardless of score in these patients.
