About this calculator

Mean arterial pressure (MAP) represents the average tissue perfusion pressure across the cardiac cycle, weighted by systolic (1/3) and diastolic (2/3) duration. Formula: MAP = (SBP + 2 × DBP)/3 or DBP + (SBP – DBP)/3, in mmHg. Used in anesthesia, critical care, cardiology, and neurology for hemodynamic management. Targets: septic shock ≥65 mmHg (Surviving Sepsis Campaign 2021); ischemic stroke 65–80; severe TBI 110–130 for adequate cerebral perfusion; cardiogenic shock ≥65; perioperative ≥65 to prevent renal and cardiac dysfunction. MAP <60 mmHg correlates with tissue hypoperfusion and increased risk of acute kidney injury, myocardial infarction, and perioperative mortality. The calculator does not account for individual factors – patients with long-standing hypertension may need higher targets for adequate perfusion.
