About this calculator
FINDRISC (Finnish Diabetes Risk Score) was developed by Lindström and Tuomilehto in 2003 at the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare, validated in European populations including Russia. Used in primary care, screening programs, occupational health, and self-assessment. The questionnaire covers 8 components: age, BMI, waist circumference, physical activity ≥30 min daily, daily fruit and vegetable intake, antihypertensive medication, prior episodes of hyperglycemia, family history of diabetes in first-degree relatives. Maximum score – 26. Interpretation: <7 – low risk (≈1% over 10 years), 7–11 – slightly elevated (4%), 12–14 – moderate (17%), 15–20 – high (33%), ≥21 – very high (50%). A score ≥12 prompts further testing with fasting glucose, HbA1c, or oral glucose tolerance test. The questionnaire does not replace diagnosis but effectively identifies high-risk individuals for targeted prevention.
