PhenoAge calculator online: biological age from blood biochemistry (Levine, 2018)

Phenotypic (biological) age from 9 routine biomarkers: albumin, creatinine, glucose, CRP, lymphocytes, MCV, RDW, alkaline phosphatase, white blood cells + chronological age. Validated by Morgan Levine (2018) as a predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality.

About this calculator

PhenoAge is a phenotypic biological age model published by Morgan Levine and colleagues in Aging (2018) using NHANES III data (n=9,926, 18-year follow-up). Biomarkers were selected via Cox regression on all-cause mortality – the final formula includes 9 blood parameters plus chronological age. A linear mortality predictor is calculated for each patient and converted to an equivalent mortality age via a Gompertz function – this is PhenoAge. A PhenoAge exceeding chronological age by 5+ years is associated with a doubling of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular events, cancer risk, and dementia (Liu, JAMA Network Open 2019). Used in preventive medicine, anti-aging programs, and longitudinal studies of healthy aging. The calculator is not a diagnostic tool – it does not establish a diagnosis. The result is interpreted by a physician in the context of specific biomarkers: elevated PhenoAge may reflect active inflammation, metabolic syndrome, occult kidney disease, or protein deficiency. Not validated in patients under 20, pregnancy, acute infection, or the early postoperative period – biomarkers are distorted and results are unreliable in these states.
