Green coffee extract is obtained from unroasted Coffea arabica beans by water-alcohol extraction. INCI: Coffea Arabica Seed Extract. The main active components are chlorogenic acid (3-7%) and caffeine (1-2%). In cosmetics it works as an antioxidant and toning agent. Chlorogenic acid neutralizes free radicals and absorbs UV in the 280-330 nm range, giving a slight additional photoprotective effect. Caffeine improves microcirculation and is traditionally used in eye-bag products and anti-cellulite formulas. Use levels run from 0.5 to 5%. Pregnancy safety. Skin absorption into the systemic circulation is minimal. Topically safe. Skin profile. Low irritation potential. Low allergen risk. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for all skin types.
