Humectant with aquaporin-3 activation. Moderate evidence.
Glyceryl Glucoside is a natural osmolyte that the cyanobacterium Nostoc commune uses to protect against drying out. INCI: Glyceryl Glucoside. Sold in cosmetics as Glycoin (CLR Berlin). In cosmetics it works not only as a humectant but also as an activator of aquaporin-3 expression – a water and glycerin channel protein in keratinocyte membranes. This improves hydration of deeper stratum corneum layers. Use levels run from 1 to 5%. Pregnancy safety. Systemic absorption is minimal. Skin profile. Very low irritation and allergen potential. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for all skin types, especially dry and dehydrated. Moderate evidence (B).
