NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Standardized 15-item assessment of ischemic stroke severity. Total range 0–42.
About this calculator
NIHSS is the international standard for stroke severity assessment in the first hours and days. AHA/ASA Guidelines 2019 recommend NIHSS as a key tool for thrombolysis and thrombectomy decisions. Score ≥ 6 with confirmed large vessel occlusion suggests considering endovascular treatment.
