Saccharomyces lysate is the product of cleaving cells of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae by enzymatic or mechanical treatment. INCI: Saccharomyces Lysate Extract. It contains amino acids, nucleotides, beta-1,3-glucans, mannans and vitamins B1, B2, B6, folate and niacin. In cosmetics it works as an epidermal restorer. Beta-glucans activate dermal fibroblasts and macrophages and stimulate collagen synthesis. Amino acids serve as building blocks for the NMF. In clinical studies the lysate improves hydration, evens out tone and reduces redness. It is frequently used in K-beauty brands (SK-II Pitera is the related component Galactomyces Ferment). It is used in essences, serums, anti-aging creams and post-procedure products. Use levels run from 1 to 10%. Pregnancy safety. Skin absorption into the systemic circulation is minimal. Yeast lysates are a food ingredient and are safe. Skin profile. Low irritation potential. Low allergen risk, with rare cases of contact allergy in people hypersensitive to yeast. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for all skin types, especially valued for mature and dull skin. Moderate evidence (B).
